G Spot Hair Design’s 10th Anniversary Hair Show: The Models

The DSPC was hired as the principal photographer for the G Spot Hair Design’s 10th Anniversary Hair Show this past Friday (April 9) at The Mill in Iowa City and it was an AMAZING DAY!  I spent the day at the salon, taking candid photos of the models and stylists as they worked together to create retro-fabulous works of human art reminiscent of Old Hollywood during the 1930s – 1960s, provided portraits of each of the models in their costumes, and photographed the show during the evening.  I have almost 1200 photos to go through from the day, but here is the beginning: the models.  Get to know them individually through my portraits, and then be prepared to see them strut on the catwalk!

Click the photo below to be whisked away a land of beauty and retro magic.

The Body is a Canvas

Check out my new tattoo and body art set on Flickr!  Some of the photos were published in the April 2010 issue of Little Village, an arts and culture magazine in Iowa City.

Ashley rocks her “Crayola” chest tattoo as part of my tattoos and body/hair art project.

The project encompasses both tattoo art and hair art.  If you are looking at this set as a whole, I urge you to look at each photo individually as I feel each photo is enhanced by the stories and statements each model has shared.

If you would like to be part of my project on body art, please contact me at deweystphoto@gmail.com or call 319.400.2656 and leave a message.  I want to keep this going and add to it!

As always, questions and comments are not only welcome, they are encouraged.

handsome

handsome, originally uploaded by kitty cat bandit.

I adopted a new kitty a few weeks ago!

His name is Chippy* and he’s a big fluffy Maine Coon. My other two cats haven’t decided that he’s cool yet, but I sure like him. He’s a good kitty-blanket. Obviously he is a friend to the camera.

*Mrs. Chippy was the cat who accompanied Ernest Shackleton and his crew aboard the Endeavor on their 1914 expedition to Antarctica. Mrs. Chippy belonged to the ship’s carpenter (carpenters in England are called chippies) and the crew named the cat Mrs. Chippy because it followed the carpenter around like it was his wife.

Read about Mrs. Chippy here.

Tattoooo-oooh

I’m working on a photo project about tattoos and body art, and some of my work will be featured in the April 2010 issue of Iowa City’s own Little Village Magazine!  I’ve contributed to LV in the past and have always enjoyed collaborating with the editors…but I have to say that I think this issue will be my favorite so far (aside from my Zombie March photos in the October 2009 issue).

I’ve put a lot of work into this project so far.  I have welcomed folks into my home to be photographed in my ghetto-fab homemade studio, and am now SO SO SO eager to share my work!  Keep your eyes open for the April 2010 Little Village, which should hit newsstands any day, and check back here to the DSPC blog and/or Facebook page to view the beginnings of what I hope will turn into something big.

Wanna show off YOUR body art??

If you or someone you know is interested in participating in my project, please email me at deweystphoto@gmail.com or call 319.400.2656.

Hugs & Kittens, everyone!  Happy April!

here’s to hoping for an equally great if not BETTER time at the next one!

here i am with my friends paul (L) and nikki (R) at the end of the night.  we are happy :)
